Swing Low

Oh for heaven’s sake let the English supporters sing it. It’s got nothing to do with race or slavery. It was written generations back by a free man as a spiritual. It’s easy to remember and easy to sing and has been sung for years in rugby club bars. Possibly forget about the dubious gesturesthat accompany it in the lower rugby club bars.

English rugby supporters are not very good at finding or writing songs. That is why English teams have to sing God Save The Queen, which they are nor entitled to. It is the British National Anthem and should only be sung by British teams. Can’t they find an English anthem or song?

Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau (Land Of My fathers) is the Welsh national anthem and a proper national anthem. Flower of Scotland is not an official anthem but is accepted as such as it recalls the Scots stuffing the English at the Battle of Bannockburn. Fair enough as there are not too many triumphs for the Scots to brag about. About time the English managed to drag up an English national anthem but if they want to sing Swing Low Sweet Chariot then let them. No different to Welsh club bars singing Deliliah although I gather some socially correct morons want to ban that. Never liked the song myself but it’s still a free country (well just about).

Caravan holiday continued on Saturday to new site within the estate. Home cooked curry meal. Afterwards took the risk of a bottle of French wine. Part of emergency supplies sent by International Management. A 2015 Heritage Chablis which had mellowed very nicely. Very acceptable.
